Description
A superb original 1996–97 Manchester City Umbro away shirt, featuring the unmistakable claret-and-white diagonal sash design and classic Brother sponsor.
Used for just one season, this striking Umbro design has become one of the most distinctive and instantly recognisable Manchester City shirts of the 1990s.
The shirt comes from a fascinating period in City’s history. Following relegation from the Premier League, the 1996–97 campaign was City’s first season in Division One, a turbulent year that saw Steve Coppell briefly take charge before Frank Clark became manager.
This genuine original period replica is a size XXL and is presented in fantastic condition for its age. Original examples of this shirt in the larger sizes and in excellent condition are increasingly desirable amongst collectors; specialist vintage-shirt retailers continue to catalogue the 1996–97 away shirt in XXL.
As with all genuine vintage garments of this age, there may be minor age-related wear or small imperfections consistent with its age. Any significant individual defects will always be clearly identified in the description and photographs.
This is an original period shirt, not a modern retro reproduction.
Personally sourced by Mark for City Nostalgia & Memorabilia, the shirt will be supplied with a Letter of Provenance.
A fantastic opportunity to acquire an iconic and increasingly collectable piece of 1990s Manchester City history, from an era of the club that many supporters remember with enormous affection.
