About Mark
Mark McCarthy’s lifelong connection with Manchester City began at the age of eight when his cousin, Mick McCarthy, signed for the club. Growing up in Milton Keynes, football became more than a pastime – it became a source of identity, belonging and inspiration.
Over the next four decades, Mark’s passion for Manchester City took him on an extraordinary journey. From travelling the country and the world following City with his sons, to writing for the official Manchester City matchday programme, his love of the club opened doors he could never have imagined.
Along the way, he formed friendships with players whose posters once adorned his bedroom wall. More recently, he was a guest of Manchester City legend and World Cup winner David Silva at his private resort in Gran Canaria, and featured in the club’s official 2023/24 kit launch alongside stars such as Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland.
A keen collector of memorabilia, Mark once housed one of the world’s largest collections of original Manchester City matchworn shirts and is widely recognised for his knowledge of the club’s shirt history.
Today, he is an author, collector, speaker and historian dedicated to preserving the stories, memories and heritage of Manchester City Football Club.
