Description
An outstanding original 1989–91 Manchester City Umbro home shirt, forever associated with one of the greatest Manchester derby victories in City’s history.
Introduced for the 1989–90 season following City’s promotion back to the First Division, this striking Umbro design marked the beginning of a new era at Maine Road. The distinctive geometric sky-blue pattern, classic City crest and Umbro detailing make it one of the most instantly recognisable City shirts of the period.
But this shirt will always be remembered for one afternoon in particular.
23 September 1989 — Manchester City 5, Manchester United 1.
A newly promoted City side produced an unforgettable demolition of their neighbours at Maine Road, with David Oldfield scoring twice alongside goals from Trevor Morley, Ian Bishop and Andy Hinchcliffe. It remains one of the most celebrated Manchester derby results in the club’s history.
For City supporters of that generation, this is quite simply the 5–1 Derby Demolition shirt.
This genuine original period replica was manufactured by Umbro, is a size Large, and is presented in fantastic condition for its age. Original examples of this increasingly collectable shirt are becoming difficult to find, particularly in such impressive condition.
As with all genuine vintage garments of this age, there may be minor age-related wear or small imperfections consistent with its age. Any significant individual defects will always be clearly identified in the description and photographs.
This is an original period shirt, not a modern retro reproduction.
Personally sourced by Mark for City Nostalgia & Memorabilia, the shirt will be supplied with a Letter of Provenance.
A superb piece of Manchester City history from an unforgettable Maine Road afternoon — the shirt of the 5–1 Derby Demolition.
