Description
An original and official match-worn Manchester City away shirt worn by commanding central defender Kevin Bond during the 1983/84 Second Division season.
This is one of the rarest and most desirable Manchester City match-worn shirts of the 1980s. Genuine examples from this period are exceptionally difficult to find, and shirts of this significance almost never become available on the open market.
Kevin Bond was ever dependable at the heart of City’s defence, making 35 appearances during the campaign as Billy McNeill’s side narrowly missed promotion, finishing 4th in the Second Division.
This iconic shirt design first appeared during the 1982/83 season, marking a landmark moment in the club’s history as Manchester City wore a shirt sponsor for the very first time. Swedish car manufacturer SAAB appeared on the front of both the home and away shirts with a black sponsor logo. At SAAB’s request, the sponsor on the home shirt was later changed to white to improve visibility, while it was removed entirely from the away shirt before returning in its original black form for the 1983/84 season, making this version particularly distinctive and historically significant.
The shirt features all the correct player-specification details associated with Manchester City match-worn shirts from this era and represents a pivotal piece in the evolution of the club’s famous kits.
Every shirt featured on this website is an original match-worn or match-issued example. These shirts are among the hardest Manchester City memorabilia pieces to obtain and form part of Mark’s world-renowned collection of Manchester City match-worn shirts.
