Description
An original and official match-worn Manchester City shirt worn by the late David Rocastle on his Manchester City debut against Southampton on 28th December 1993.
Signed by Brian Horton in an exchange deal that saw David White move to Leeds United, Rocastle arrived at Maine Road as one of the most respected and gifted midfielders in English football. Having already established himself as a star with Arsenal and earned England honours, Manchester City supporters were privileged to witness one of the game’s true gentlemen in a City shirt.
This shirt was worn on Rocastle’s debut before being worn again away to Newcastle United on 1st January 1994, after which he switched to the long-sleeved version. During his only season at Maine Road, ‘Rocky’ made 23 appearances before moving to Chelsea in the summer of 1994.
David Rocastle was admired not only for his footballing ability but also for his humility, warmth and sportsmanship. Tragically, he passed away on 31st March 2001, aged just 33, following a battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. More than two decades later, he remains one of the most loved and respected figures in English football, with his legacy continuing to live on, particularly among Arsenal supporters, but also with great affection from Manchester City fans.
What elevates this shirt to another level is its outstanding provenance. It was originally obtained directly from the Rocastle family, providing an exceptional and unquestionable chain of ownership. Match-worn shirts belonging to such an iconic footballer are extraordinarily rare, and examples with provenance of this calibre are almost impossible to find.
Every shirt featured on this website is an original match-worn or match-issued example. These shirts are among the hardest Manchester City memorabilia pieces to obtain and form part of Mark’s world-renowned collection of Manchester City match-worn shirts.
Each shirt purchased comes complete with a personally signed Letter of Provenance from Mark, confirming its authenticity and origin, giving buyers complete confidence in the history and provenance of their shirt.
Whether you’re a dedicated Manchester City supporter, an Arsenal fan wishing to own a piece of Rocky’s legacy, or a serious football memorabilia collector, this represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a genuine match-worn shirt from one of English football’s most admired and unforgettable players.
