An original and official match-worn long sleeve Manchester City shirt, originally issued to Keith Curle but worn by Steve Redmond in his final appearance for the club during Ken Barnes’s Testimonial on 8th May 1992.
This is a wonderful and historic Manchester City shirt from a landmark season in English football. The 1991/92 campaign was the final season of the Football League First Division, bringing to an end more than a century of top-flight football before the launch of the Premier League in 1992/93.
Originally allocated to defender Keith Curle, who favoured the short-sleeved version throughout his spell at Manchester City, this long-sleeved shirt was instead worn by Steve Redmond in his final appearance for the club during Ken Barnes’s Testimonial on 8th May 1992. The match honoured Ken Barnes, one of Manchester City’s true legends, whose outstanding service as a player, coach and manager made him one of the most respected figures in the club’s history.
Adding even greater provenance, the shirt was personally gifted by Steve Redmond to a close friend and lifelong Manchester City supporter following the testimonial. It also features a handwritten dedication from Redmond on the reverse, making it a truly unique and highly personal piece of Manchester City history.
The shirt retains the original Football League sleeve patch, worn during the competition’s final season before the introduction of the Premier League, making it an important piece from one of the most significant transitional periods in English football.
The shirt features all the correct player-specification details associated with Manchester City match-worn shirts from this era and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine shirt connected to both the end of the First Division era and the career of one of City’s homegrown players.
