Quite simply, it doesn’t come much more iconic than this. This shirt is believed to have been worn when David White scored Manchester City’s first-ever Premier League goal, in the club’s opening fixture of the new era of English football.

That historic match was also the first-ever Monday Night Football fixture shown live on Sky Sports, marking the launch of a revolutionary new competition. With the Premier League’s famous slogan, “A Whole New Ball Game,” the occasion was unlike anything football had seen before. Supporters witnessed the match ball being parachuted into the stadium, Sky dancers entertaining the crowd, and players looking on in amazement as the Premier League era officially began.

David White enjoyed an outstanding campaign, becoming an ever-present in Peter Reid’s side and playing a key role during Manchester City’s first season in the Premier League.

During the 1992/93 season, shirts were still worn without player names or squad numbers on the reverse, while the original plastic Premier League sleeve badge was used. The following season introduced printed player names and squad numbers, together with the more durable embroidered-style Premier League badge that supporters have since become familiar with.
